Learning Objectives

This module is not about the policies and procedures for your specific recovery home. This varies by home, so peer supports and house managers should discuss expectations with their supervisors. This content is about your role as a leader, mentor, peer, and an individual on your own recovery journey.

  • Through this module, you will learn about:
  • The importance of self-reflection
  • The role of effective communication
  • The impact of supportive recovery communities in and outside of the home
  • Strategies for providing safety and support for clients during crisis
  • Supporting diverse client populations

Key Concepts

The key concepts for Module 2 are based on SAMHSA’s Principles of Core Competencies for Peer Workers.

These Core Competencies were created for and by people with lived experience with mental illness, substance use, and addiction. We’ll go through the following concepts together in this module:

  • Recovery-Oriented
  • Trauma-Informed
  • Voluntary
  • Relationship-Focused
